THE FIRST OF THE STORMS

Image
Amsha Ilyas (ex first year) So fina-a-a-aly, after what seemed like ages, the sea is once again calm, quiet and peaceful at the end fo the worst storms of all time. No...a hurricane actually.  Umm… but a tornado would sound more legit…… anyhoo YES PEOPLE! The horrifying-four monthed-skull throbbing-eye soring-hair falling-acne growing-fat gaining-puking-hibernating-gumshuda Prof season is finally over! Phew! Yay, hurray…we made it alive…celebrations  ( lets just neglect the dreaded walk to Patiala almost a month from now, shall we) . And now, many of us these days are trying to rediscover whatever little remained of our non-medical life. *sighs* Battered and drenched completely by this nightmare of a storm, I think back to how I steered my way out of it. Mates, the journey has been quite ugly! January 2014. Aah! We are all young, naïve, innocent and harmless little creatures, (think first year), absolutely in complete awe of the “keeemuu royalty” that surrounded us. Beho

A New Home or Just a Punishment:

Image
By Lubaba Mukhtar “not yet in 2 nd year” For the 1 st year hosteller girls out there, it’s time to decide whether your hostel is going to become an abode of happiness for you or just a two to three week punishment from which you crave to run away. By God’s grace and I’m very happy to acknowledge that you are being kept in a separate hostel quite away from KEMU old girls hostel and its regular boarders (your seniors, rats, cats and some other wild life). Although you are at a disadvantage in many ways but you do have one benefit (no ragging!!) Don’t gloat too much, I’ve heard some of my own friends and some seniors bragging that soon enough (as soon as they can make full recovery from the proff fever), they’re coming your way packed in rickshaws and fully loaded with new and old ideas to rag you. And as a dear friend of mine said and I quote that only if the seniors come to rag you, will you be able to come to Old Girls’ hostel to study the famous clavicle (obviously the toughe

Hear Ye Froshies!

Image
By~ Romesa Qaiser Khan, ex-first year. (Will-be grammar nazis, I do know how to spell freshies but one beloved sir christened us froshies and now we pass the honour to you.)      So. The new sacrificial lambs are here at last. You have studied and worked hard and given up all of life's joys to win the rat race that is MCAT. Congratulations! (You could've done better though, our-merit-art-higher-than-thous, juzsayin') They tell you this is the big IT. THE milestone you've been waiting to reach. Life will be a piece of cake from now on. In fact, I overheard one of you saying "MCAT ke waqt jo feeling thi man. Ab to life asaan hogi."   which made me mentally go... Not that I intend to be a killjoy. But we were where you are not so long ago and we feel like someone should've forewarned us so we're doing the same for you. Here's a leeetle view of what's going to happen (which they never show you in all those college movies): 1. The enthu

Bacha genius ha… 30 th October was the Day of Judgment – kind of an apocalypse we had all been preparing for almost 4 years. I just remember that I woke up at 8 in the morning and we had to go to my uncle’s place. As was my routine, I grabbed my mobile to check the unread messages. On the top of the list was my cousin’s message informing me that UHS merit list had been announced.

The Road To KEMU

Image
-   Ayesha Mushtaq Class of 2014-2019 Nearly every pre-medical student in Punjab dreams of studying in King Edward Medical University one day. But making it to this institution, the ‘den of kings and queens’, is of course no mean feat, for it is the primary choice of all applicants and the bar is raised higher and higher each year. Since my childhood, I knew that I had to be a doctor in the future, for it was a direction mapped out by my mother; but I had never really thought about which place I wanted to go to for professional studies. Until F.Sc., that is. And when I gave the subject a thought or two, I just set my eyes on Army Medical College, Rawalpindi. I was no fan of KEMU back then, and the idea of ‘the nation’s premier medical school’ didn’t seem fascinating at all. Coming from a strongly military background, army is where my heart lies. Hence, AM College was a natural choice.

USMLE Step 1 (after Step 2 CK) Experience (Score: 268)  by Dr. Ansab Abbas Haider I began preparing for my step 1 after I got my step 2 result. I had about 3 to 4 months for the prep. I knew I could not spare time to go through all of Kaplan books and then do First Aid and UWorld all in the given time frame, so I jumped straight to First Aid. I had taken step 2 before so I was confident I could use First Aid right away.

Punjab Medical Colleges Merit List 2014

- Ayesha Mushtaq. Class of 2014-2019 Congratulations all those who made it into public sector medical colleges of Punjab, specially to all the new fellow Kemcolians ! The merit for medical colleges witnessed a rare decline this year, in sharp contrast to the trend of steadily increasing merit witnessed over the past few years. This can be attributed of course to the slightly increased difficulty level of the Medical Colleges Admission Test (MCAT) this year, and the decrease in average marks scored by students in HSSC examinations. Below is a list of the closing merits for MBBS of all 17 public sector medical colleges in the province. KEMU stayed on top like always !
